Well, my bags are packed and I am ready to head to RWA nationals in Reno, Nevada. My tickets and passport are already in my purse (the purse I am bringing – we won’t even go there ). Instructions have been posted all over the house for my husband and sons – but they are not fooling me, they will pay no attention whatsoever to them. And they will eat all over the house, not wash a dish, or pick up their clothes, or make their beds. Nor will they wash laundry, wipe down a bathroom or sweep and mop or bathe the dog. Pizza boxes and soft drink cans will be scattered through the house like knick knacks. Shoes will be left in the middle of the floor and mail will be left opened and spread out on the kitchen bar.

Will it be worth it to leave and let them do this and spend a week with 2000 women who, like me, are pursuing their dreams of publication?

Absolutely!

It will also be worth it as I fly home next Sunday morning, to be thinking about my guys running around the house like crazy cleaning up a week’s worth of a mess and trying hard not to leave any evidence of their debauchery.

You are a descriptive writer. An avid reader of
Robert Frost, perhaps, you LOVE to use flowery
words and use the paper and pen as your canvas
and paintbrush. You prefer to paint a mental
image rather than simply toy around with
people’s minds. A very inspired person, you
love to be in nature and usually are a very
outdoorsy type of person. A writer with a
natural green thumb, perhaps?

Just got back from out of town and now playing catch up to get ready and go back out of town. Whew! This time I will be heading to Reno, Nevada for the RWA national conference. This is my second year to attend the conference and looking forward to it. I won the airline tickets in an auction last year and promised my husband that he could go with me. Not to attend the conference, but to take some time out to gamble and just play. A few weeks ago, I decided to renege on the offer and he hasn’t forgiven me yet. There are times in a woman’s life that she needs to get away and be with friends of like minds and ambitions. I knew that if he went with me then I would spend more time with him than I should and not accomplish what I was going for. Meet new people, learn more on the craft of writing, the publishing business, and get motivated. Oh, well. Sucks to be him and not me right now 😛

And what is wrong with talking rabbits?

You’re Watership Down!
by Richard Adams
Though many think of you as a bit young, even childish, you’re
actually incredibly deep and complex. You show people the need to rethink their
assumptions, and confront them on everything from how they think to where they
build their houses. You might be one of the greatest people of all time. You’d
be recognized as such if you weren’t always talking about talking rabbits.

Hope you like the new look! A great friend helped me with it and we were up until 1:30 am. I am very happy with it.

Saturday mornings I have a standing date with my husband and a nonfat, sugar free vanilla latte with 3 extra pumps of vanilla at Starbucks. Several years ago, the only coffee I would drink would be an occasional cup of the chicory flavor coffee so popular in New Orleans. But last year, at a Christmas party for my one of my writer’s groups, I received a Starbucks gift card. It took me several months to make it the store and since that first cup of coffee, I have been hooked.

I suppose having the time alone with my husband adds to that special occasion. We set some rules early on. No arguing, no lecturing and no complaining. We take this chance to talk about our week and what’s on our mind. Or the upcoming week and what we hope to accomplish. Or sometimes just nothing in general.

There is just something fun about sitting there with a cup of your favorite coffee, smelling the different aromas, watching the people come in. Some are regulars like us and some come for a special treat. There are the joggers that reward themselves, the loners that are reading or writing or just talking on their cells and the ones that meet their friends for a morning get together.

The good thing is that I spend the morning with DH and then have the rest of the day to write and work on various things and not feel guilty.

Today after coffee, we went to the movies to see Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Lots of action, buildings blown up, car chases, and bullets flying. I liked it, but I am easily entertained.

The rest of today I spent writing on my synopsis and blurbs for my website. Not quite through but closer.

This morning started off with words with my DH.

Not a good morning.

Found out I was scheduled to work at an office an hour away and not the one fifteen minutes from home. Running late.

A bad morning.

Half way there, I dropped my diet coke all over the carpeted floorboard of my new car.

A terrible morning.

Thought about everything I needed to do and that which I wanted to do and wondered why in the world I agreed to work today.

A miserable morning.

Remembered I hadn’t worked on my WIP in three weeks while all my writer friends were getting closer to publication.

Slit my throat morning.

Sat at the car wash at noon getting my carpets shampooed while I ate my lunch. Bought the neatest sticky notes for a good friend. She’ll laugh when I give them to her.

Better afternoon.

Phone call from DH. He was wrong, please forgive him.

Nice afternoon.

Driving home in clean, fresh smelling, like new car. Stopped and picked up the new JD Robb.

Great afternoon.

Driving for an hour – lots to think about. Discovered why I put off writing. Fear. Once you know problem you can fix it.

Determined afternoon.

Decided to face my fear head on. Got home. Did some chores. Wrote on synopsis. Wrote on blog. Wrote on article for newsletter. Wrote on website.

What a fantastic day!
