‘Once you make a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen.’
~Ralph Waldo Emerson

My DH gets a little confused sometimes. :dunno:

The other night he asked if I had called so and so to find out about such and such (names have been changed to protect the innocent) and, because of a unusual super busy week, I replied that I hadn’t had time. He then wanted to know if anywhere in the near future I would be able to get to it. It was something that I had to handle and it really was on my to do list.

Really.

Yes, I will do it as soon as I get time was my reply as I shook my head and sighed heavily. Too much to do and too little time.

Not five minutes later, I get a call from a dear friend and fellow writer. Thirty minutes or so later I hang up and find him looking at me strangely.

‘Whaat???’ I asked.

‘You haven’t had time to take care of (protecting those innocents again) and yet you talked for over thirty minutes to a girlfriend about nothing much in particular.’ He shook his head, clearly puzzled.

‘And so your point is???’ Now I was baffled.

‘But you said you didn’t have time.’

‘I didn’t have time to do that. But ‘dear friend and fellow writer’ called and I had to talk with her.’

‘You hated talking with your mother on the phone. You never have time to talk with your brother. You refuse to call my mother. You barely make time to talk with me when I call. So, why on God’s green earth that you will drop everything and talk to one of your girlfriends?’

I pondered that for a moment. ‘Because they’re my friends.”

‘Nuff said.

Seems like forever since I have had the time to blog. I try to make sure I blog at least once or twice a week, and would love to do it every day, but sometimes can’t. Even behind on reading them! It is so addicting!

Saturday had our monthly chapter meeting and let me tell you…Cece came, we saw, and she conquered! She totally had everyone eating out of her hand! I believe she changed several of our die hard members minds about e-pub, promoting, and marketing. I know it opened a whole new world for me.

Afterwards, Cece, Dennie and I went and researched Deep Ellum. The annual street Arts Festival was on and it was a blast! We walked and talked and researched and ate. Yes, you CAN have fun and research also!

Contest update: Them puppies are in the mail back to the entrants! If it seemed it was a little late it’s because our contest offers a matrix to let the entrant know exactly where they stood in the final scoring. And that takes time, folks! I took them to the Post Office to get them mailed as soon as Brenda and I packed up the last of them. Does the words TAX TIME and EASTER mean anything to you???? Well, after spending an hour and fifteen minutes there and with the line out both doors, I should have turned around and left, but nooo…. Can you say dumb Sandy?

Now that we have wrapped that up, I am excited about my writing! I will be hitting it hot, hard and heavy. Just watch me! I have some great friends that are making me accountable to them and I feel very comfortable asking for their help. Don’t know why I worry about that!

News, news, and more news: Mik’s serial from Inara Press is now available for purchase. I received my first season today and can’t wait to start reading it.

Lost was good tonight. It’s weird, but I am starting to see TV and books in a different light. I now look at conflicts, motivations, characterizations, and plot. Day-um! Ruins a good movie every time!

Check out Mik’s blog where you can preorder her serial ‘Ransom and Fortune from Inara Press.

This serial is full of action as Skye Ransom, heiress to a flawed time bender, and Dane Fortune, the hit man hired to kill her, have to join forces as they are catapulted on a time travel adventure that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Can they fight the growing attraction for each other as they fight for their lives?

on the writing front…

Not much done these last few days as we are wrapping up the contest and working more at my day job. Had another epiphany on my Shadow Warrior Series, but will share that when I have more time.

I owe, I owe, it’s off to work I go!

HOW TO CLEAN THE HOUSE

1. Open a new file in your PC.
2. Name it “Housework.”
3. Send it to the RECYCLE BIN
4. Empty the RECYCLE BIN
5. Your PC will ask you, “Are you sure you want to delete Housework permanently?”
6. Calmly answer, “Yes,” and press the mouse button firmly……
7. Feel better?

Works for me!

…no eating while writing!

Yesterday, I wrote 5 pages! :page:

The kind of writing that just flows and you feel good about. My mantra today is I will NOT reread them nor edit them! :whip:

(Nor eat as much as I did yesterday. Weight Watchers on Thursday ya know!)

But ate way too much while I was writing! It was like all my senses were on overdrive! I even painted the moulding around our front door that was starting to look a little shabby! AND pulled a few weeds while hubby was working in the yard! Oh, what a night…la la la la lala lala!

Today, if I am not called into work, I plan on researching the Deep Ellum District in Dallas my heroine needs to make a trip to. Any and all input is appreciated

I think I am on such a high thanks to Dennie who has helped me with some trouble spots. Thanks, girlfriend!

Gotta run. Phone ringing!

addendum: Called into work! I owe, I owe, it’s off to work I go!

…I am taller, thinner, richer, smarter, funnier, kinder, more talented, more courageous…

But since I’m not, I will settled for being as loved as I am.

To all my friends and family who put up with my corny jokes, my neuroses, my whining, my successes, my failures, and love me in spite of them all…

Love ya’ll back!

Most repeated question I asked today:

‘Are you allowed to do that?’

I didn’t have just high school students my first day as a substitute teacher. I had kindergarten, first grade, AND high school. At different times, of course.

I got to the school, filled out the appropriate paperwork and was shown to ‘my’ classroom where I was promptly handed a stack of blank demerits and told to feel free to use them if I needed to. Whoa! To me, receiving a demerit I had to take home and have signed was like the worst thing I could get. So, I put them in a drawer and out of sight. No one would be needing those on my shift.

For the first hour, I had the kindergarteners. Cute, precious, and fun. Until the 20th person asked, “Can you get me on the Disney website?” The teacher I was replacing had written out a workplan and being the organized person I am, planned on following the plan. Easy, right? Wrong! Everyone wanted on the disney website which wasn’t on the workplan for the the day. No one wanted to play on Paint, or Kidpix, or the typing game CD’s that was left on the desk.

“Are you allowed to do that?” I asked. Unanimously, they said yes. I figured if it was a no-no, there would be one Margaret (think Dennis the Menace) in the bunch that would set me straight, but no one owned up. So, with only 20 minutes left in the period, I put everyone on the disney website.

Wanna know how fast I can now type www.disneychannel.com after the 20th time in a row?

Next period, I had a mixture of 8th graders and the high school yearbook club. I thought it was sweet that there were so many high school students willing to volunteer on the yearbook. I know I distinctly heard someone murmur they wouldn’t be caught dead volunteering and this was nothing but slave labor. So, my take on that comment is it is a required class.

Two guys in the corner kept eyeing me pretty regularly and since I know they weren’t thinking I was a hot babe or anything, I decided to check what they were doing on their computers. Now, I am not dumb. I have raised four sons. And I know what ‘start’ ‘D’ does on a computer, so I pretended not to pay any attention to them and slowly made my way around the room, catching them unaware.

Yep, playing online computer games.

“Are you allowed to that?” I asked? But, of course they are. I took the demerits out of the drawer just in case.

The eighth graders were doing a typing test. I know I told them which test to take. I know I did. If they weren’t listening and did the wrong one, hey, listen better next time. The groans and complaints weren’t that loud as they redid it. I pulled out my pen and laid it discreetly across the blank demerit pile.

Once they were through, they could play on the computer. I periodically patrolled the computer screens to see what they were playing. “Are you allowed to do that?” referring to the particular games they chose. Of course they were. I would think the school had controls blocking certain sites and since it was nothing I would balk at my kids playing at that age, I let it go. Just surprised me a little.

The last group of the day were the first graders. And guess where they all wanted to go on the computer? Wish I had a nickel for each time I saw Mickey’s ears.

Except for one boy in the far corner giggling with another. I could tell he wasn’t on the disney website and he was pointing to something on the screen so I walked over. Six year olds are not as fast as high schoolers in covering their tracks and this is what I found typed on notepad: “hey, baby. I love you”

“Are you allowed to do that?” He is only six years old! He ‘promised’ he didn’t write it and so I have now made a mental note to check the computers after each class.

So, recap for today:

Demerits: 0
Bathroom passes: 16
Nurse pass: 1
www.disneychannel.com: 4,680,500
experience to be a substitute teacher: priceless
