‘He that will not when he may, when he will, he shall have nay.’
~Robert Burton

Me, coming down the stairs at midnight: “What are you doing?”

Husband: “Watching TV.”

Me: “Why is the oven on?”

Husband: “I’m cooking a frozen pizza.”

“Don’t forget to spray the pizza pan with Pam.”

“I’m not using a pizza pan. I can read the directions on the box, ya know.”

“Yes, but if you….”

“Honey, go back to bed. Got it all under control. I know what I’m doing.”

“Yes, but you need to…”

“I KNOW I am not doing it EXACTLY like you would do it. But there is more than one way to do things! I think I know how to cook a pizza!”

Me, coming down at 6:00 am:

“What are you doing?”

“Trying to get the burnt pizza off the oven rack.”

“Don’t forget to…”

“I’m using SOS pads.”

“But, the SOS pads will…”

“I know what I’m doing!”

30 minutes later:

“What are you doing?”

“Trying to get this stupid SOS residue off these blinds above the sink.”

I smile.

The window behind the blinds has been needing a good washing for a long time.

‘Sometimes when I consider what tremendous consequences come from little things…I am tempted to think…there are no little things.’
~Bruce Barton

Brrr! Winter has finally hit North Texas. I’d almost forgotten what cold feels like. The rain is supposed to start right after midnight, but hopefully it won’t turn icy. Both sons and the hubby are out and won’t be coming home until late.

Didn’t work at my regular job today, but still WORKED! DH has a new office and helped him organize, decorate, etc. then went grocery shopping at Walmart, Sam’s Club, and Kroger. Came home, unloaded the car, put the groceries away and ordered pizza! :loser: WHY do we need all that food when I have no plans of cooking? After hitting all those stores, who has the energy to cook? And, besides, I am supposed to be WRITING!

My father, who has now been gone twenty years, had the sweetest wife in the world who gave me my half sister and two half brothers. I have only seen them about twice in my life, but have developed the neatest relationship with my half sister in the past several years. All via emails. The other day, I received a letter from my stepmother and in the envelope, she had included a picture of my mother and I when I was about two years old. I was so touched by this gesture.

In the picture, my mom, who passed away three years ago, was in the prime of her life, full of beauty and glowing health that it now seems really hard to remember how ill she was for so long. It made me realize that, at one time, she was like me. She dreamed and hoped and maybe wished upon stars in the night. She laughed and loved, danced and sang. Once, she had her whole life in front of her. I have often wondered what regrets in life she may have had. Regret for things she had done and things she had not. She wasn’t just a mother, but a wife, daughter and a woman.

Thanks, Margaret, for sending me that picture! It’s a precious thing to me now!

Now going to work on getting pics of Margaret, my half-sibs, my brother, and Tony and Judi. People who I don’t see much but are still close to my heart.

Don’t know why I am so melancholy tonight. I think I need a Starbucks fix. :coffee:

‘Writing is mostly thinking, sometimes on paper.’
~Paul Raymond Martin

It’s sad, but now my Wednesday nights are taken up by American Idol, followed by Lost, and then Invasion. All three are progressing along, the plots getting more and more involved. We’re down to the twelve females and twelve males on AI, there’s definitely trouble in paradise on Lost, and Muriel just found out she is one egg producing machine on Invasion.

I used to shake my head at my Grandmother not wanting to miss her “Soaps”. But now, anything that has to be done on a Wednesday night is done in three minute commercial time or has to wait.

Our spring like weather is finally coming to an end. We definitely need the rain, though, but hope the drop in temperatures will not make it icy. I hate ice. Unless I stay home with a good book and good supply of my favorite junk foods.

Haven’t done in writing, but an idea for the Prez’s Column is perculating. Hope to get it done before the weekend.

Off to work. Tomorrow I help my dh with his new office. And this weekend I will WRITE! That’s a promise.

‘To experience burnout as a writer, you must first be on fire.’
~Paul Raymond Martin

Today is our RWA chapter meeting and we are celebrating our fifth anniversary. There is such a feel of accomplishment and joy as I was there for the very first meeting in 2001 and have been priveledged to see it grow and become successful. We have a fantastic group of women. There is a wonderful comaradarie, celebrating each other’s successes and to cry over the rejections. Each one of us encourage, push, hope, listen, and generally kick butt to help the others with their writing career.

The founder of our group has flown in from out of state to celebrate with us so today couldn’t be more perfect.

And we have cake!

Quote of the Day

‘Dost thou love life?
Then do not squander time, for time is the stuff life is made of.’

~Ben Franklin

Well, Ben, today I squandered time.

And it felt good.

After church and lunch, I took a three hour nap. THREE HOURS!

And I needed and enjoyed every minute of it. And, now, for my penance, I have to watch the super bowl with dh.

With chips and dip. And diet coke. And cooked sausage off the grill. And chocolate dessert.

I will suffer through it. 😎

Quote of the Day

‘Forget the failures of the past and embrace the promises of the future.’

~Anonymous

It appears to me right now that everyone I know is getting slammed one way or another with something in their lives that is causing much pain and confusion. Last night two things happened in my family that almost had me pulling my not-so-blonde roots out. And as I pondered and worried and stewed and pouted, I remembered that when I was younger, I had a much different attitiude about how to handle these things.

Before it was ‘Hey, no problem. It’ll work out alright.’ Now it is: ‘OMG! What if this happens? What’ll we do? What’s going to happen? How will we..?’

You get the picture.

I’m worried I am beginning to turn into Raymond’s mom on ‘Everbody Loves Raymond’.
And I am paraphrasing this, folks. It is not verbatim:

Raymond’s Mom: “Raymond, we have all these pears left over that you sent us.”
Raymond: “So share them with your friends. You’ll get some more fruit next month.”
Mom: “More fruit! What do you mean more fruit? When?”
Raymond: “Next month, Ma.”
Mom: “What? More fruit next month? Why?”
Raymond: “Yeah, Ma. That’s why it is called the Fruit of the Month.”
Mom: “Fruit of the month? More fruit? What are we going to do with more fruit?”
Raymond: “I don’t know, Ma..”
Mom: “Frank! Frank! Get in here! We are getting more fruit!”
Frank: “More fruit? More FRUIT? Why?”
Raymond: “Yeah, Dad, it’s called Fruit of the Month.”
Frank: “You mean we get fruit EVERY month? What? You think we can’t afford our own fruit?”
Raymond: “I didn’t mean…”
Mom: “Oh, my! What will the neighbors think?”
Frank: “What are we going to do with all this fruit!”
Mom: “He’s in a cult, Frank. That is what it is. A cult!”
Raymond: “It’s NOT a cult, Ma! It’s a gift! I thought… Oh, never mind! I’ll cancel it.”
Frank: “Yeah, you do that Raymond. What were you thinking? I can afford my own fruit!”
Mom: “Oh, thank God!”

I laugh everytime I see this episode and, believe it or not, helps me keep things in perspective when I start freaking out when life turns fruity.

‘Nobody got anywhere in this world by simply being content.’

~Louis L’Amour

I dunno. Looks pretty good to me right now!

The contest entries are all on the way to the first round judges! Now we get a little bit of a breather.

Would love to take a vacation and just do nothing. Relax. Rejuvenate. Recuperate.

Be a bear.

But too much to do, to see, to experience.

Have been so busy with the contest, it is hard getting back to writing. I need either some motivation or a swift kick in the butt. :loser: I guess that is why they say to write EVERY day! Then you don’t lose your momentum.

Congrats to Mik for selling her ‘Ransome and Fortune’ serial as a re-release to Inara Press. Way to go, Michelle! Dane Fortune is HOT!

Mary D just returned from a week long visit with her parents and has the most hysterical top ten reasons why adults should avoid visits to the parents.

Check out Dennie’s blog for some really hot pics.
